READING LOG Schedule
Days 1-2-3-4 Directions: Follow this schedule for the reading log and use the Spelling composition book for each day. Write the title and author of the book at the top margin. Then, write the date, number of minutes read, and your parent initials underneath. Sentences should reflect the grammar and mechanics lessons that are taught in school. Capitalization. Organization. Punctuation. Structure. (COPS) Students may use colored pencils or crayons for coloring purposes. Please use a pencil to write. No pens or markers as they will bleed through the thin paper. Day 1: Draw a picture of the main characters in the story. Write about who they are and why you like or dislike them. Day 2: Do a Circle Map about the story. Write sentences (however many you need) to tell me about the story. Things to consider: What was the problem? Why did the characters do that? How did they solve the problem? Day 3: Draw a picture of the setting. Write sentences (however many you need) about where the story takes place. Day 4: Pick a character, the setting, or the event that happened and do a Describing / Bubble Map to tell me about them. Then write sentences to explain your thinking.

Mahalo! Hi and welcome to our new community. I am looking forward to work with all of you. I will be using this website to communicate with you regarding important information, upcoming events, and even volunteer information. Please check this blog at least twice a week as I will do my personal best to log all that we are doing in room E-101. Please go easy on me as this will be my first year both teaching first grade AND using all the technology they provide here at Ho'okele. We will be able to meet on Thursday, August 4th, 2017 at 5:30 in room E-101 (yellow building). A little bit about me. My name is Cathryn Clabaugh (pronounced clay-baw). I am born and raised in San Diego, California but was looking for a new adventure. Hawaii found me and so far I am throughly enjoying my time here. My educational experiences include a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies (education) from San Diego State University and Teaching Credential with a minor in Child and Family Development. My Master's Degree is in Teaching and Learning from Point Loma Nazarene University with a minor in both Special Education and Reading. Before I was hired for Ho'okele Elementary School, I worked as a PLC teacher and taught Art, Literacy, and English Language Development (ELD) in South Bay Union School District at Emory Elementary School. Before my Elementary Teaching experience, I taught for 10 years at the preschool level while I was going to school to get my degrees. I do not currently have any children of my own, but I do have a lot of nieces and nephews; the eldest is now driving, and the youngest just had her second birthday. I have been married to a wonderful, supportive husband since 2008, who is willing to take on this new adventure with me. I can't wait to meet you all! Just in case you missed the Meet and Greet on Thursday, August 4th, please download, watch the slide presentation and then, fill out the questionnaire and return to me. Thank you very much.
